Cezza’s got an appointment today, so it’s officially my first babysitting stint, so it’s time to consider safe, easily containable activities to entertain the eldest nephew for what I’m assured will be no longer than an hour:

Max (3), having already expressed an interest in puzzles, doggies, and shitly animated, tenuosly scripted, 3D kids tv-shows, has come forward with a veritable cornucopia of options…

Re-doing his jigsaw puzzle compendium, being clearly dis-satisifed with the first five successful attempts
Doing some colouring (junior rendering as I’ll be calling it)
Watching me listen to the new acoustic alkaline trio I got this morning, crudely editing out at least half of the swear words with the mute button
Playtime with the train set, regularly interspersed with firing crass accusations at me (his one and only uncle) of sabotage
Doing dry runs with his epi-pen incase of cashew ingestion
Discussing the potential negative stereotyping of the African American community in the collectors edition of Boyz ‘n’ the Hood
Discussing the potential negative stereotyping of the hispanic community in Dora
Exploiting the obvious fact that I’ve got no idea what to say to a child
Spinning around and around until he spews.

A friend of mine has recently put out a benefit EP to raise money for Sea Shepherd. Now, I’m no whale hugger, vegetarian, or vegan, but there’s something to be said for this EP.

I’m increasingly impressed with people who get off their arse’s and actually do something with their lives, and this record is a perfect example.

The EP has been put out as a result of a belief in the Sea Shepherd cause, I’m not going to go into the people at Sea Shepherd, what they do or what they believe, if you want to check it out then you can do so here.

So why make a big post about it if I don’t want to go into what Sea Shepherd do? Because for me this isn’t about Sea Shepherd, I’m posting this because I’m genuinely impressed by anybody who’s prepared to pull their finger out and do something they consider worthwhile, that goes for the record label (very small, and owner operated) and all the bands involved.

***disclaimer*** I am not now, nor have I ever been a music reviewer/journo. But I love pop punk, I love this EP, and it’s been on my jogging playlist since the first day it landed on my doorstep, 4 wicked, no nonsense, pop punk tunes from 4 wicked, no nonsense bands!

So I got a new nephew yesterday, that makes 2 of them now. They decided to call him Sam, so for those of you savvy to my nephew collection, I now have Sam ‘n’ Max.

The parents have quite literally no idea how pleased I am about their seemingly random name choices. I’m choosing to see it as a beautiful tribute to a bygone era of 2D adventure gaming, which it almost definitely isn’t.

For those that were too busy kissing girls or doing other cool shit with the popular kids in the early 90s

Free Jazz in Nottingham tonight Tuesday 9th Feb….

There’s a Jazz night tonight at Shaw’s in Hockley, sat right next to the Broadway cinema, it’s a really nice bar, beer is a bit on the expensive side, but with it being free entry its definitely worth a look. I know next to nothing about Jazz but I’ve been a few times and its definitely worth a look, with some very accomplished musicians.

Like I said, I know nothing about Jazz, but with a free door, what have you got to lose, (apart from spending an evening with people who are a bit wanky about their music choice obviously)

ashtray monument

I built loads of these in my time as a smoker, Im not entirely sure why I felt the need to keep jamming butts down the side of the ashtray, as opposed to just chucking the discarded ones away, but for some reason I felt compelled to keep stacking. Im sure lots of smokers will be able to relate to the massive annoyance that is, trying to find out which dog-end it is thats causing the foul stench as its filter slowly melts.

Since I quit, I am totally conscious of my expression and body language when I walk past someone who’s smoking, being sure to appear very casual and at ease with the whole situation, I even hold back if I need to clear my throat, just incase they think Im doing it to be snippy.

Anyway, its late, Im tired, and Im rambling, but if you like this sketch you can order it as a print from HERE
I appreciate that alternatively, you could just download it from here, by right clicking it, and print it yourself for a fraction of the cost, and thats probably exactly what I’d do.
